Earlier this week I shared a DIY Epsom salt Pine Cone Tutorial and promised to share a tutorial for the Pottery Barn Inspired Bay Leaf Tree shown in one of the photos, so guess what? Today I’m going to share a tutorial that shows you step by step how to make your own Pottery Barn Inspired Bay Leaf Tree using a Foam Cone, Bay Leaves, and of course Epsom Salt and Mod Podge.
Here is what you will need:
- Foam Cone
- Epsom Salt
- Mod Podge
- Paint Brush
- Dried Bay Leaves (Purchase them in the spice aisle at the Grocery Store)
- Hairspray (optional)
Step 1: Cover Bay Leaf with Mod Podge
Step 2: Sprinkle Epsom Salt over entire leaf
Step 3: Once it dries spray hairspray on top of it to keep the Epsom salt from falling off (It works best if you let the hairspray dry for 30/45 minutes before your start gluing the leaves on your cone)
As a side note, before you get started gluing the Epsom Salt Bay leaves onto your cone try to go ahead and Mod Podge Epsom Salt on enough leaves to cover the entire cone or at least come close to covering the cone.
Step 4: Start by hot gluing a row of Bay leaves onto the cone in a sideways direction (this is so you can’t see in-between the first row of leaves)
Step 5: Once you have glued bay leaves around the first row of the cone in a sideways direction begin gluing the bay leaves in a vertical direction around the cone. Be sure to overlap the bay leaves as you go around the cone.
Continue gluing the bay leaves around the cone. When you move to another row stagger the leaves by placing the first leaf of each row above the space where the two leaves below it meet(I hope that makes sense).
Step 6: When you get to the top position three bay leaves so that it forms a point
If any of the Epsom Salt comes off during the process or you want to make the top a little more “Frosted” add a little mod podge and sprinkle on enough Epsom Salt to cover the area.
Lastly, Spray the entire tree with Hairspray and let it sit for a few hours…and there you have it, a Pottery Barn Inspired Bay Leaf Tree

What a gorgeous DIY! I think yours looks even better than the Pottery Barn variety! Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial with us.
Thank You Maria, I’m so glad you liked it!! I’m thinking about making a few more 🙂
