It’s Pumpkin season, yippie!! So get your DIY hat, fall crafting supplies and join me for a fun and easy DIY Shabby Chic Pumpkin Vase
Centerpiece Tutorial. After seeing the “Bootiful Pumpkins” in this month’s Better Homes and Garden I knew that a Pumpkin vase was absolutely going to be my first pumpkin décor project of the season. I wanted to try something a little different, so instead of a plain orange pumpkin vase I took it a step further and gave my pumpkin vase a look that is a little more chic….shabby chic that is!! a shabby chic pumpkin vase. As most of you know I am in LOVE with Shabby Chic décor, so painting my pumpkin vase white and adding burlap was the only logical thing to do 🙂
You can make a DIY Shabby Chic Pumpkin Vase or just a regular pumpkin vase out of Foam (Carvable) Pumpkins or Real Pumpkins. For my DIY Shabby Chic Pumpkin vase I chose to use a 6” foam pumpkin that I purchased from the dollar tree a few years back (I bought like 15 of those things) at the time it may have seemed a little extreme, but they have lasted me through 3 seasons of pumpkin crafts and I think I’ll be good for at least one more season. 🙂
The Dollar Tree only have Carvable pumpkins in one size (6 inches), so if you would like a carvable pumpkin that is larger or smaller in size you should check out Hobby Lobby or Michaels, as they have a wide variety carvable pumpkins.
I decided to use my shabby chic pumpkin vase to display a flower arrangement (it’s not really an arrangement, it’s just a bunch of fake roses) but they are orange so I thought they would look nice for fall 🙂
I am temporarily showcasing my shabby chic floral pumpkin arrangement on my fireplace mantel; however once I get everything for my fall tablescape I’m going to move it to my dining room (I’m not a fan of the white pumpkin on a white mantel) but it works for now 🙂
Alright, let’s get started!!
Here is what you will need:
- Carvable Pumpkin
- Pencil
- Knife
- Paint
- Paint Brush
- Burlap
- Twine
- Burlap flower
- Mod Podge or Hot Glue Gun
Step 1: Draw a circle to outline where you are going to carve
Step 2: Carve your pumpkin. I used a regular kitchen knife to carve out the center
After carving out center
Step 3: Paint your pumpkin (I used acrylic paint)
After 2 coats of paint
Step 4: Embellish your pumpkin. Start by wrapping a piece of Burlap around the center of your pumpkin
To add a little more character I took a long piece of twine and wrapped it around the pumpkin (in the center of the burlap) about 4 times
Lastly I added adorned my pumpkin vase with a Burlap and Lace Flower (The flower is slightly larger than I’d like it to be, but I didn’t realize it until it was glued on). Next time I’ll use a smaller flower 🙂
Step 6: Add Vase Filler. This will help your flowers stay in place. I’m using silk flowers so I didn’t add water; however if you want to use real flowers you will use slightly less vase filler and add water
Step 7: Arrange your flowers
Here is what it looks like after you’ve arranged all of your flowers into your pumpkin vase

Omgosh I love your webpage Jessica:) It was so funny I kept looking up most of the burlap crafts on your page and then I actually saw who it was and was so excited! I am in LOVE with burlap plus we are planning my brothers wedding next fall. So I will be stalking your page for awhile lol thanks for all the wonderful ideas and advice!
Awww, thanks girl!!! I’m soooo glad you like it 🙂 Burlap is the best fabric EVER!!!! If I would have discovered all the things you can do with burlap before I got married my wedding would have been rustic instead of classic 🙂
