I absolutely love Tissue Paper projects, they create a big impact, with a small price tag!! There are so many fun things
you can do with Tissue paper (aside from stuffing gift bags). I previously shared a tutorial on how to make Tissue Paper Pomanders and today I’m going to share a tutorial for one of my favorite Tissue paper projects….a DIY Tissue Paper Tassel Garland.
You can use Tissue Paper Tassel Garlands to decorate at Parties and events or to decorate your home. They look especially good in nursery’s or kids rooms and hung across a fireplace mantle as seasonal decor. I made my Tissue Paper Tassel Garland for my Craft Room, as I thought it would add a little flair to my creative space!!
Okay, let’s get started!
DIY Tissue Paper Tassel Garland Tutorial
Here is what you need:
- Tissue Paper
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Paper Clips
- Rope/String/Ribbon (whatever you want to use to hang your tassels from)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Decorative Ribbon (Optional)
Step 1: Lay a piece of Tissue paper out flat. If the tissue paper has a side that is prettier than the other side (Like my gold tissue paper) then you want to lay the pretty side face down. Then fold the piece of tissue in half vertically. Once my fold was even I used paper clips to keep it in place.
Step 2: Fold the piece of tissue paper in half again (horizontally). Move the paper clips so it holds the tissue paper in place (both vertically and horizontally) this makes cutting MUCH easier!!
Step 3: Cut your Tissue in half. This allows you to make two Tassels. You want to cut along the line that looks like the image below
This is how your Tissue Paper should look after you cut it in half
Step 4: To make sure I cut my strips evenly I decided to use a pencil and mark the lines before I went scissor crazy! You want to start by drawing a horizontal line 1 inch from the top (this is for the fold line). Then you will draw 1/2 inch vertical lines starting at the horizontal line.
Step 5: Cut along the vertical lines.
Step 6: Once all strips are cut, separate the two pieces and then unfold and lay it flat
Step 7: Begin rolling tightly down the middle crease.
Step 8: When you get finished rolling you want to twist the center
Step 9: Then fold the twist in half to create a loop for hanging. Take your hot glue gun and glue the bottom of the loop to keep it in place.
Step 10: Take a thin piece of ribbon and glue it around the bottom of the loop to create a finished look (this is optional, but I thought it made a big difference in the overall look of my tassels)
Step 11: Repeat to create additional tassels in various colors. Hang from Twine, String, thin cord or ribbon.
And 16 Tassels later you have a Tissue Paper Tassel Garland!! Here are some pictures of my Tissue Paper Tassel Garland in my Craft Room!
How do you think it looks in my Craft Room? I’d love your opinions!!
Until Next Time…..
