Last week the Fall Pottery Barn catalog came in the mail, YAY, but since I don’t have a Pottery Barn Budget I love finding cheaper ways to create the same Pottery Barn Look. I came across the Gold Burlap Pillar candles as I was going through the catalog and knew that this would be a quick and simple diy project that I could do in no-time and since I purchased 4 yards of burlap at Hobby Lobby a few weeks back and have a ton of candles sitting around the house, this pottery barn inspired project was going to cost next to nothing!
Here is the Pottery Barn Gold Burlap Candle
You Ready?? Alright, lets get started!!
Here is what you need
- Mod Podge
- Candle
- Paint Brush or Foam Brush
- Burlap
- Gold Paint
- Scissors
Step 1: Wrap Burlap around candle to see about how much fabric you are going to need

Step 2: Cut Burlap, this should be slightly more material than you are going to need
Step 3: Wrap the piece of fabric around the candle to see how much you are going to need to trim off of the edges. You can use a pen to mark where you are going to need to cut or line up the bottom and top of the candle with one of the horizontal burlap threads and cut along that line (cut as straight as possible so you can get a clean look)
Step 4: Apply Mod Podge onto the candle
Step 5: Apply Mod Podge onto the Burlap (The Mod Podge will dry clear, so don’t worry about the white showing through)
Step 6: Wrap the Burlap around the candle (Be as gentle as possible so that the thread doesn’t unwind) If it unwinds a little, it’s fine, you can apply Mod Podge to keep it from coming completely un-threaded.
Step 7: Once the Mod Podge dries you can cut any lose threads that look out of place.Paint a coat of gold paint over the burlap and let it dry
There you have it, a Pottery Barn Inspired Burlap Candle

What a clean and simple way to dress up some pillar candles. Definitely a dime saver compared to Pottery Barn! Thank you for posting this tutorial.
Hi- This is such a great DIY craft..I love the elegance & simplicity..even better..the price!! **My question is: Should there be any concern of the burlap catching on fire? (Because this does not have a vase). Please let me know your thoughts on this..thanks a bunch..keep your AWESOME DIY’s on a shoe string budget coming 🙂
Hi Dawn, Thank you so much for the comment!! I have burned my candle but it was only for a short period of time. Mod Podge isn’t flammable; however burlap is, so I would just use it for looks. Sorry, I wish I could say No it’s not, but unfortunately it is. Thanks for asking that question!! Xo Jessica
