DIY Stud Earrings

Over the past few years I’ve become increasingly fond of Stud Earrings and after seeing some really cute buttons at the fabric store I thought it would be a fun idea to make them into earrings. I couldn’t believe how quick & easy they were to make. This may be my first pair of DIY button stud earrings but I can definitely promise you it won’t be my last pair.

Here is what you’ll need:

        • Shank Buttons
        • Shank Cutters/Wire Cutters
        • Earring Posts
        • Earring Backs
        • Hot Glue Gun
        • Nail File

Step 1: Using the Shank/Wire Cutters remove the shank on the back of the buttons
Cut Shank off

Step 2: Slide the back of the earring on the finger nail file to smooth the area where you cut off the shank
"Sand back of button"

Step 3: Turn the button face down and put a dot of glue at the top center of the back of the button
"Apply Hot Glue"

Step 4: Immediately place the earring post on top of the glue dot
"Earring Back"

Repeat the steps above for the second earring and in less than 30 minutes you’ll have a pair of FABULOUS Stud Earrings

  1. What a great idea! I am planning to do earring advent calendars for my 4 girls and this will come in really handy. Always a great source of new ideas. Thanks!

    • Hi Suzie, what a wonderful idea!! I know your girls will love it!!! Another idea is to buy a big pack of rhinestones at Michaels add glue to the top and sprinkle glitter on them. Once it dries you can spray the earrings with hairspray and the glitter should stay on!! I would love for you to share some of the earrings when you are finished 🙂

  2. That is such a great idea.i am defiantly going to make some. I having been looking up the materials, what size earrings posts do you use. Thanks

    • Hi Melissa, I’m so glad you liked the tutorial!! The size of the post depends on the size of the button you are using. I would use either a 6Mm or 10Mm depending on the size! Good Luck!! I’d love to see pics when you are done!!
